Tommaso Sacconi: Portinerie Romane
La micro-architettura del Novecento a Roma / Twentieth-Century Micro-Architecture in Rome
Published by Silvana Editoriale in 2026, Portinerie Romane brings together over a decade of photographic research into the portinerie of Roman apartment buildings constructed between the 1920s and 1960s.
Through a systematic, typological approach, the project documents these often-overlooked architectural spaces, situated at the threshold between public and private life. Originally conceived as places of reception, surveillance, and mediation between the street and the domestic environment, portinerie offer a distinctive perspective on Rome's twentieth-century residential architecture and its social history.
The book brings together a selection of photographs from this extensive archive, revealing the architectural diversity, formal repetitions, and subtle variations of these spaces. Presented in a bilingual Italian-English edition, the volume offers a visual exploration of a largely overlooked aspect of Rome's architectural heritage.
